Support Local Refugees In Need
We're collecting funds to support programs that assist refugees in Indiana in their resettlement and transition to the US. In addition to monetary funding, we are collecting new/gently used coats and new blankets.
Refugee Resettlement
"According to the United Nations, there are 68.5 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, the highest level since World War II. Of these, 25.4 million are refugees – meaning not only have they been forced to leave their homes, but often friends and family, education and career – the result of having to leave their home country.
More than half of refugees are children, fleeing violence and worse – while still at risk of exploitation, abuse, and more. Many refugee children have been separated from their family or are otherwise unsupported.
In 2018, just 22,491 refugees from around the world were admitted to the United States, a considerable decrease from the 84,994 welcomed just two years ago in 2016. Refugees from Burma and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are the two largest groups now resettling in Indiana while admissions from Muslim-majority countries have stalled to a near halt due to discriminatory policies instituted by the current administration" (Exodus Refugee).
The Crisis
The Trump administration is expected to cut down refugee resettlement even further and cap it at 18,000 in 2020.
Exodus Refugee has assisted thousands of clients in their resettlement and transition right here in Indiana.
Because of this drastic cut to refugee admissions, Exodus Refugee (along with other NGOs that assist refugees in the US) is expected to have dramatic budget cuts.
What We Can Do To Help
Programs such as the Youth Program, Women's Program, Mental Health Program, and Emergency Assistance Program are at risk. We can help support and ensure these programs continue to serve the refugees in our community. Every dollar helps.
In addition to this fundraiser, Exodus is also in need of new/gently used coats and new blankets for local refugees in need. Donations can be dropped off at:

More About These Programs
- Mental Health Program:
"The program was created due to a growing number of clients who have experienced trauma before arriving in the U.S.
All adult clients are screened for mental wellness concerns upon arrival. Once mental health needs are identified, Exodus’ Mental Wellness Coordinator can provide individual, couple, family, and group sessions. The Coordinator also makes referrals to community resources as appropriate" (Exodus Refugee).
- Youth Program:
"Many refugee youth have experienced significant trauma and significant loss. To address the unique needs and challenges faced by refugee youth, Exodus’ Youth Program provides youth cultural orientation, school tours, employment training, integration activities, intensive youth case management, and direct support" (Exodus Refugee).
- Women's Program:
"The Women’s Program is targeted at increasing refugee women’s and girls’ ability to gain confidence, promote economic self-sufficiency, education and empowerment. Additionally, the Women’s Program provides supportive resources and referrals for services such as housing, counseling, healthcare, and interpretation" (Exodus Refugee).
- Emergency Funding Program:
This serves as a backup for families that are in need of paying rent, utility expenses, and any other temporary hardships a family may face.
